Meet the Artist
Hello, I’m Nadia Islam, an artist working with Islamic geometry from my home studio. I’m a mother of three and a special educational needs educator based in London.
I have always been drawn to art. As a child, I was constantly sketching - flowers, leaves, and small details from nature that felt comforting and familiar. I didn’t think of it as anything serious at the time; it was simply something I did when I needed quiet. Pattern, repetition, and natural forms always felt grounding to me, even before I had the words to explain why.
It wasn’t until much later, during a difficult period in my life, that art became something more essential. I was going through a bad patch mentally, and my mind felt restless and heavy. Around that time, I came across Islamic geometry. What began as curiosity quickly became something deeply therapeutic. Drawing geometric patterns required patience, focus, and presence, and for the first time in a while, my thoughts began to slow. Working through each line and shape gave my mind something steady to rest on.
Over time, Islamic geometry became a form of mindfulness for me. The balance, symmetry, and repetition offered a quiet sense of order when things felt unsettled internally. Creating these patterns helped me sit with my thoughts rather than fight them and slowly find calm through structure and care. The process itself became just as important as the finished work.
Today, I continue to create with that same intention. My work is slow, deliberate, and grounded in balance. I genuinely believe Islamic geometry can be a gentle support for those going through dark or difficult times, not as a cure, but as a small, meaningful way to calm the mind and bring moments of stillness. If my work can offer even a brief pause, a sense of focus, or quiet comfort, then it has done what it was meant to do.
If you’d like to stay connected, you can find more of my work and ongoing process on Instagram, where I share new pieces and moments from the studio. You’re also very welcome to reach out directly via email. I always appreciate hearing from those who feel a connection to this work, and I’m grateful for the quiet community that has grown around it.
